Will I be sharing a bedroom?
Mary Ward House provides comfortable, spacious accommodation for 90 students, across a mixture of single, double and multi-bed rooms.
If you have a preference for a single or shared room, then please contact us and we will try our best to accommodate your request.
How will I do my laundry?
Your bed linen and towels will be laundered by us. Laundry facilities are available at Mary Ward House, and you can access these if you wish to wash any clothes during your stay.
What do I need to pack?
We will send more details on what to pack with your pre-arrival information so you can plan ahead and arrive ready for action.
Please plan to bring enough clothes for two weeks, which are suitable for classroom study, excursions and for relaxation time.
Bed linen and towels will be provided at Mary Ward House in your accommodation.

What happens if I feel unwell?
illuminate students stay at Mary Ward House, where they are supported by members of our experienced team living onsite.
Should you feel unwell, one of our qualified first-aiders will be available 24/7 for minor ailments and injuries. illuminate staff can administer non-prescription medications as defined in our Medicine and Illness Policy.
Should you require medical attention during your stay, we are located close to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, a centre of medical excellence, as outlined in our Medicine and Illness Policy.
What if I am homesick?
We understand that for some students, this will be their first independent overseas trip. Our hosts are experienced in helping students overcome these feelings and will help you settle in during the first couple of days.
We encourage students to focus on getting involved with the course, keeping busy and making friends. Members of our team will always be available to listen to and support you.
How do I stay in touch with home?
All students are encouraged to phone home on arrival, to let parents/carers know they have arrived safely in Cambridge. Alternatively, parents can contact the illuminate team to confirm arrival.
After that, we invite parents to keep in touch at any time, with the exception of during timetabled lessons or after 22.00 (BST).
What health information do I need to provide?
As part of our application process, all medical, dental, dietary, educational or other special needs or disabilities must be disclosed. This means that our illuminate Cambridge summer course team will be prepared to support the health and welfare of all students.
On arrival in Cambridge, students run through the information provided, and any medication will be collected and safely stored and administered by our illuminate team.
Any information of this nature will be held sensitively, in accordance with our data protection policy.
Do I need health and travel insurance?
illuminate Cambridge summer courses do not provide travel or medical insurance. Therefore we strongly recommend all students arrange comprehensive travel and medical insurance. In fact, you may need to provide proof of insurance to obtain entry into the UK.
Any costs related to medical needs including medical and dental care, tests, allergy medication or injections and prescriptions will be covered by the student.
