How do I travel to the UK?
You are responsible for making your own arrangement for travelling to the UK.
Do you meet students at the airport?
A complimentary London airport transfer service, arranged by an illuminate team member, is included in the course fee.
However, you must arrive at a London airport (Stansted, Heathrow or Gatwick) on a pre-defined date and with set times.
Summer Course 2023
Arrive London Airport |
Depart London Airport |
Sunday 9 July 2023
06:00 - 16:00 |
Saturday 22 July 2023
08:00 - 17:00 |
Our illuminate hosts will meet you on arrival (you will spot their illuminate Cambridge shirts and sign) at the terminal building. We will escort you to your transfer coach or taxi.
On departure days, our hosts will accompany you to the airport, guide you through check-in, before saying our goodbyes at border control.
What if I want to arrive/depart on different days or at alternative airports?
If you are not arriving at a London airport, or have flights arriving or departing outside of the set dates and times above, you are responsible for arranging and paying for your own transport to Cambridge.
All students must arrive in time for the welcome session on the first day of the course.
When do I need to tell illuminate about my travel plans?
All students must complete the illuminate Cambridge Travel Form online by 5 June 2023.
This gives us time to plan all transfers to and from the London airports. Once this is done, you will receive details of the travel arrangements in the UK.
If we do not receive your Travel Form by 5 June 2023, then unfortunately we cannot guarantee a place on our complimentary transfer service.
Do I need to travel to the UK alone?
It is completely up to you and your parents if you choose to travel as an unaccompanied minor.
If you opt to travel alone, using your airline’s unaccompanied minor service, please confirm this on the illuminate Travel Form to enable our team to follow the correct procedure for meeting you at the airport.
Please see our Terms and Conditions policy for more information.
Will I need a visa?
If you are not a British or Irish citizen, you may require a UK visitor visa which is valid for up to six months.
Please review this list of countries from the UK Government which lists all nationalities requiring a visa to travel to the UK.
If you do need a visitor visa, illuminate will issue a consent to travel letter, prior to your departure. You must keep this letter with your passport, ready to present to Border Agency official on arrival in the UK.
Students (and their families) are responsible for making the required visa arrangements.
What health information do I need to provide?
As part of the application process, all medical, dental, dietary, educational or other special needs or disabilities must be disclosed. This means that our illuminate summer course team will be prepared to support the health and welfare of all students.
On arrival in Cambridge, students run through the information provided, and any medication will be collected and safely stored and administered by our illuminate team.
Any information of this nature will be held sensitively, in accordance with our data protection policy.
Do I need health and travel insurance?
illuminate Cambridge summer courses will not provide travel or medical insurance. Therefore we strongly recommend all students arrange comprehensive travel and medical insurance. In fact, you may need to provide proof of insurance to obtain entry into the UK.
Any costs related to medical needs including medical and dental care, tests, allergy medication or injections and prescriptions will be covered by the student.
