Our accomodation

When will I be with illuminate hosts?

Our illuminate hosts will meet you at a London airport at set arrival times, to ensure your safe arrival in Cambridge.

Throughout our two-week Cambridge summer course, hosts organise and lead illuminate trips and excursions. They also lead a busy schedule of afternoon, evening and weekend activities.

Finally, hosts will accompany you on your return to a London airport (at set departure times) – waving you off as you head home to share your summer school adventures with family and friends.

What happens if I feel unwell?

illuminate students stay at Mary Ward House, where they are supported by members of our experienced team living onsite.

Should you feel unwell, one of our qualified first-aiders will be available 24/7 for minor ailments and injuries. illuminate staff can administer non-prescription medications as defined in our Medicine and Illness Policy.

Should you require medical attention during your stay, we are located close to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, a centre of medical excellence, as outlined in our Medicine and Illness Policy.

What if I am homesick?

We understand that for some students, this will be their first independent overseas trip. Our hosts are experienced in helping students overcome these feelings and will help you settle in during the first couple of days.

We encourage students to focus on getting involved with the course, keeping busy and making friends. Members of our team will always be available to listen to and support you.

How do I stay in touch with home?

All students are encouraged to make contact with home on arrival, to let parents/carers know they have arrived safely in Cambridge. Alternatively, parents can contact the illuminate team to confirm arrival.

After that, we invite parents to keep in touch at any time, with the exception of during timetabled lessons or after 22.00 (BST).
